What does the flag of Greece look like?

The flag of Greece has nine stripes going across, five blue and four white. In the top corner nearest the flagpole is a white cross on a blue square.

What do the colours and stripes mean?

Blue and white were chosen for the Greek flag in 1822, to show the people's devotion to the Greek Orthodox faith.

Later, people linked the nine stripes with the Greek motto Freedom or Death.
