Where do the colours and the eagle come from?
The red, white and black stripes come from a flag flown after a revolution in Egypt in 1952. On that flag, red was said to stand for struggle, white for purity, and black for the hard times of the past.
Today's eagle, the eagle of Saladin, was added in 1984. Saladin was a famous sultan who ruled Egypt in the 1100s.
